Is hair transplanting a cure for thinning locks?
Health is wealth, we all know of this saying! But what about our locks? Most of us take our locks for granted until they are gone. For many people a hair transplant can fetch all the lost hair and make their head full of hair. In case of hair thinning then the procedure can help by bringing back all the lost confidence.
What Is a Hair Transplant?
It is a surgery that moves the hair you already have to fill up areas with thin or no hair.
How is it performed?
In a hair transplant hair is moved from an area of thick growth to bald areas. The procedure is as follows:
  • You are given a local anesthesia to numb the scalp area. Medicine may be given to relax you.
  • Your scalp is fully cleaned.
  • A strip of your hairy scalp is removed using a surgical knife also called scalper and set aside. This becomes the donor area. The scalp is closed using tiny stitches.
  • A small group of hair or individual hair is separated carefully from the removed scalp.
  • Bald areas that will receive healthy hair are cleaned and these areas of the scalp are called recipient areas.
  • There are tiny cuts made in the bald areas.
  • Healthy hair is carefully places in the cuts. In a session hundreds to thousands of hair may be transplanted.


What are the Expectations and Recovery period?

Post surgery the scalp may be very tender. The surgeon will advise you if you need pain killers or any kind of bandage. But many people return to routine to work 2-5 days post operation.
After a period of 2-3 weeks after surgery the hair transplanted will fall out but you should see signs of new hair growth in a few months. People mostly see new hair growth of 60% in 9 months. In some cases the surgeons prescribe hair growing drug called minoxidil (Rogaine) to improve hair growth post transplantation.

Risks of treatment

As with any kind of surgery, transplants have some risks, including bleeding and infection. There’s also the chance for scarring and unnatural-looking new hair growth.
Like any surgery, there are some risks in transplants too like bleeding and infection. There could be chances of developing scarring and unnatural hair growth. But for such issues compressors and antibiotics provide relief. Talk to your hair transplant surgeon in detail about the issues your facing and they should be able to help you.
Post Procedure
Following the doctor’s instruction for caring your scalp is essential. It will ensure healing evenly. For a day or 2 post process you may need a huge surgical dressing or a small dressing that can be protected by a baseball cap. During the recovery period after surgery the scalp can be very tender and pain killers may be needed.

Outlook

Yes hair transplant can be a solution for thinning locks as they result in excellent hair growth in a span of many months. More than one session may be needed to create best results. The hair replaced is permanent.
